These small, mouth-blown glass hyacinth vases have the perfect shape for growing bulbs. They have a thick base and tapered centre and widen out at the top. The base is wide and solid and is therefore unlikely to topple, which could be a factor to think about as your bulb gets larger. You could use this bulb vase for hyacinths but also for other small bulbs. And when the bulb season is over, just fill the vase with pretty flowers!
What is a bulb vase? Simply said a vase in which you grow a bulb. Where usually you'd be planting bulbs direct into the soil and your borders, these bulb vases are transparent and don't need soil. Because of the see-through glass you can watch your bulbs grow. The roots of the bulb stretch into the water below and the flower emerges from the top. It's a lovely, and very interesting, way of bringing spring into your home.
These hyacinth vases can also be used as growing vases for a multitude of plants or flowers, not just for bulbs. You can take clippings from house plants and pop the stems into bulb vases with water, and see the roots emerge.
It is not complicated to grow a bulb in this hyacinth vase. Just make sure that the water level is just below the bottom of the bulb. It is best to keep your bulb in a dark spot until the bulb sprouts about four centimetres. Then put it in a light and airy space and watch it grow!
We have these vases in a larger size as well.
