This wooden Type Case was used as a drawer in a printing shop to keep movable type (various letters and ligatures) used for letterpress printing. Each case is compartmentalised differently, depending on the printer, which make each piece truly unique.
Traditionally, the capital letters were stored in a separate drawer, or case, placed above the case holding the other letters (this is why the capital letters are called 'uppercase' characters, and the minuscules are 'lower case').
Nowadays these authentic typecases make a very charming wall decoration. Use it to showcase small collectibles -like shells, stones or figurines- or fill each compartment with photos. These cases can also be a unique storage for small stationary items, sewing materials or jewellery.
