Each Malawi Chair is lovingly handwoven by skilled artisans living along the shores of Lake Malawi. The process is as beautiful as the result: locally harvested African cane is sun-dried under the open skies, then meticulously woven by hand – a tradition passed down from father to son. It can take up to eight days to complete a single chair, and every artisan leaves their own unique 'signature' in the pattern of the weave, making each piece truly one of a kind.
The makers behind these chairs are small-scale farmers who weave during the off-season, as part of a community-run cooperative. This piece will be shipped directly from our warehouse. Delivery usually takes a few days. We do have several showroom models available in Haarlem if you'd like to see this iconic chair in person.
