It’s woven by hand from strong and durable veta vera grass – also called elephant grass – a resilient, natural material native to Ghana. Harvested and processed using age-old techniques, the grass is split, hand-rolled and dyed before skilled artisans begin weaving each piece. Every basket takes up to three days to complete.
Crafted in a small weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana, each dog bed is truly one-of-a-kind. The majority of the weavers are men, many of whom learned the intricate art of basketry from their parents. For these artisan families, farming is often the main source of income, but drought and unpredictable rainfall make it a fragile livelihood.
