Embrace the colour blocking trend with our bright sunflower yellow and natural coloured baskets, hand woven in South Western Kenya. These storage baskets are available in three handy sizes and can be used as flower pots and planters for indoor plants as well as being useful dressing table organisers for jewellery, and stylish desk tidies. Use yours in the bathroom for toiletries or loo rolls, or use yours as an attractive fruit bowl. Need more inspiration? Check out our basket uses page HERE.
Our coloured baskets are produced by a small Kenyan weaving cooperative of around forty members, with a dedicated dye manager who oversees colour quality and consistency. Sisal grass is sourced ready-rolled when regular orders come in, and is hand-dyed in large vats and hung out to dry before a traditional twining method is used. This is a highly skilled workforce of women who have woven from a young age, having been taught by the family matriarch. Using their own tape measures helps the weavers produce the set sizes we offer. This group meets weekly to receive new orders, deliver completed baskets, and receive payment.
Our partnership with this cooperative helps women to support their families more comfortably, since subsistence farming alone often fails to meet the family’s needs. Buy one of our woven baskets and you actively support these weavers’ livelihoods, and our commitment to empowering women. Each woven basket is supplied with a thank you card from the weaving cooperative, and you can meet the weavers HERE.
