This colourful Azilal rug is a traditional wool Berber rug from the Azilal region in Morocco, but woven with a new technique. This modern style is called 'Henkel', which is a mixed technique of weaving (the colourful base) and wool (white layer on top).
These contrasting textures make this rug unusual, interesting and appealing. Each rug is 100% unique and authentic. True works of art.
This rug was purchased for us by Souk in the City. During their trips in Morocco they always look for beautiful, unique pieces. They work with trustworthy suppliers who provide work to hundreds of women in the mountain areas, and bid with the local merchants on the criée berbère (auction) of the carpet souks in the heart of Marrakech, skipping most intermediate channels!
Due to their handwoven and unique nature - irregularities in shape and colour can be expected, and are what add to their beauty, character and value.
